Django + React rebuild of a legacy enterprise portal — 4× faster, half the code.

(01) The challenge

Where it started.

Nine years of accreted Django templates meant every page load dragged 4.8 seconds of server-rendered HTML across the wire — and the team was too scared of the codebase to deploy more than once a month. Sales was losing renewals over it.

(02) The approach

How we built it.

We didn't rewrite everything at once. A clean REST API went in first, then React screens replaced templates one section at a time behind a feature flag. The old template layer came out only when nothing depended on it — so the portal never went down, and the client's team shipped alongside us the whole way.

A mid-size logistics firm was running a 9-year-old Django monolith. Page loads averaged 4.8 seconds. We rebuilt the frontend in React with a clean API layer, dropped the template layer entirely, and shipped in 10 weeks.
